Coordinator of the Epeny’a Sawa association, based in Belgium, which works for Cameroonian culture, particularly that of the peoples of the coastal coast of the national triangle. In this interview, he talks about act 2 of the Ndolè Tasty event, scheduled for November 23, 2024, in Genk.
The second edition of Ndolè Tasty will take place on November 23, 2024 in Ghent. What is this event and how did the project come about to organize an annual meeting around one of the emblematic dishes of the Sawa people, of the Cameroonian territory, and one of the best known in Africa and in the world?
On Saturday, November 23, 2024, the second edition of Ndolè Tasty will take place. The event will take place at the Foyer Ontmoetingscentrum Baarle, located at the following address: Baarledorpstraat 90 – B-9031 Drongen, Gent.
For several years, Ndolè, Cameroon's emblematic dish, has proudly distinguished itself in numerous international culinary rankings. In May 2023, it was recognized among the two best African recipes in the prestigious TasteAtlas ranking. On this occasion, the Ngondo, Traditional Assembly of Sawa Peoples, issued a declaration on June 13, 2023, calling on Cameroonians around the world to celebrate this recognition.
It is in this context that Ndolè Tasty was born, an event designed to celebrate and promote Ndolè, but also to highlight the richness and diversity of Cameroonian cuisine.
What are the new features and particularities of this second act of Ndolè Tasty?
Among the special features of this edition, we should note the scale of the event, which is tripled compared to the previous edition. Around 200 guests from Europe, the Americas and Africa are expected. This growing success justifies the choice of venue: the Foyer Ontmoetingscentrum Baarle, a place that is both welcoming and easily accessible.
This edition is also distinguished by a series of new features, including a special emphasis on cultural activities, which are sure to pique the interest of the guests. These include an activity in the Duala language, an introduction to Ambas-Bay for those who are not experienced dancers, as well as other surprises that will only be revealed on the day itself. One thing is certain: the participants will have an unforgettable time.
What does the Epeny’a Sawa association expect from the 2024 edition of this traditional Sawa gastronomy festival?
Let’s instead talk about Cameroonian gastronomy, because that’s what it’s all about. Ndolè is its emblem. The Epeny’a Sawa association aims to promote Cameroonian culture, by particularly highlighting that of the Sawa people. Carrying out suggestions and the objectives of the Ngondo, Traditional Assembly of Sawa Peoples, is already a goal in itself. In addition, the association supports the development of agricultural projects in Cameroon, in partnership with the Coop CA E3ALIT cooperative, which has supported it in organizing the Ndolè Tasty event since its first edition. The profits generated by this event are already intended for concrete projects. One of the association’s objectives is of course to ensure that these profits are significant.
