The Cameroon Chess Federation (FECADE) is back home. The men's and women's national team won gold medals at the 45th World Chess Olympiad, which took place in Budapest, Hungary, from September 10 to 23, 2024.
This prestigious event, which brought together 195 countries in the Men's Section and 181 countries in the Women's Section, as well as 1884 participants, is part of a long tradition starting from the 1st World Chess Olympiad organized in London in 1927 and aimed at promoting friendship and peaceful competition through the game of chess. On a stopover in the economic capital, the lionesses and lions of chess did not fail to present their medals to the governor of the Littoral region SAMUEL DIEUDONNE IVAHA DIBOUA. The women's team, led by Captain FOUDA TOCKO PAUL ARISTIDE, finished in 113th place with 10 points. Women's participation, a symbol of growing inclusion in the sport, is a source of pride for FECADE.
The men's team, led by Captain MBAALE PAUL GERARD, ranked 139th with a total of 9 points. These results show the team's growing competitiveness compared to Cameroon's 04 previous participations and its potential to progress in future international competitions. FECADE President Tanko Eli welcomed this progress and the teams' performances at the World Olympiad, while emphasizing the federation's continued commitment to promoting chess and supporting Cameroonian athletes on the international stage.

As a reminder: FECADE is an active member of the Fédération Internationale Des Echecs (FIDE), the African Chess Confederation as well as the Association Internationale Des Echecs Francophones (Al-DEF). These affiliations strengthen its ties with the global chess community and ensure that Cameroon remains at the forefront of chess development. FECADE remains committed to using chess as a means of social transformation, providing opportunities for personal and professional development at all levels of Cameroonian society. With plans to further expand chess programs in schools and universities, the federation is committed to increasing female and youth participation in the sport. It thus pursues its goal of building a strong and inclusive national chess community.
